    I particularly like *this* response:
    My dear, beloved Brits,
I understand the Guardian is sponsoring a service where British citizens write to Americans to advise them on how to vote. Thank heavens! I was adrift in a sea of confusion and you are my beacon of hope!

Feel free to respond to this email with your advice. Please keep in mind that I am something of an anglophile, so this is not confrontational. Please remember, too, that I am merely an American. That means I am not very bright. It means I have no culture or sense of history. It also means that I am barely literate, so please don't use big, fancy words.

    Set me straight, folks!

    Wink

My mom had a "favorite" saying and I use it all the time ---- "to each his own said the old lady, as she kissed her cow." That applies to all.

"If it wasnt for America, you'd all be speaking German"

Funny how that one always seems to come up in these discussions.

    Hey England, Scotland and Wales,
Mind your own business. We don't need weenie-spined Limeys meddling in our presidental election. If it wasn't for America, you'd all be speaking German. And if America would have had a president, then, of the likes of Kerry, you'd all be goose-stepping around Buckingham Palace. YOU ARE NOT WANTED!! Whether you want to support either party. BUTT OUT!!!

The Luftwaffe was decimated and would have been unable to carry out even mediocre air support which is essential to a cross channel invasion. GOD I hate stupid people. After the air war and Britain?s retreat from Dunkirk they were in no shape to threaten anyone so if the US had not entered the war in Europe, Germany could have focused on the Soviet Union. With only one front Hitler would have been successful in defeating the red army.

Near the end of the war Germany was starting to deploy jet engine technology and was in the final stages of developing an atomic bomb. I doubt Hitler would have had any second thoughts about dropping atomic bombs on London.

    God I hate stupid people.

Actually FDR, while supporting Great Britain and trying to shore up the effort against Hitler, had contingency plans for a German victory. One of the early contentious items that caused serious problems between Churchill and FDR is that FDR wanted the Royal Navy sent to Canada to be used at US discretion rather than fall into German hands. Ofcourse Churchill adamantly refused. FDR's biggest concern was in appearing to be a dupe to the English like Wilson had been in WWI. It was going to be FDR's way or not at all. In most things Churchill had to compromise and FDR had it his way.

Very few people also know that FDR and Churchill were related through Churchill's American mother. They were (albeit distant) cousins.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The war was already lost by the time The US entered the war. They entered rightly so knowing the Red army wouldnt stop at Berlin.
